At Value Dental Centers Tempe, we offer both traditional and implant-supported dentures, which can be placed in our office in Tempe, AZ. We will work with you to help you determine which option is right for you based on your oral health, lifestyle, and budget. Regardless of which denture you choose, your new prosthetic will be fully customized to fit comfortably and look completely natural.
What is the Difference Between Tradition and Implant-Supported Dentures?
Both traditional dentures and implant-supported dentures replace missing teeth to restore function to your smile. With either option, you will receive a custom-made prosthetic from tooth-colored materials for a natural look that complements your facial features and supports your facial structures.
We offer both full and partial traditional dentures to replace a few missing teeth or an entire row of missing teeth. Most patients require a tooth extraction for one or multiple teeth prior to receiving a full or partial denture. It usually takes a few weeks for your gums to heal following an extraction, after which your final prosthetic can be fitted and placed. Natural suction and an adhesive hold full dentures in place, whereas partials are held in place with pieces of metal or plastic attached to the adjacent natural teeth. Traditional full and partial dentures are removable, so they require more in-depth care than your natural teeth. The dentures themselves must be brushed and soaked in a special solution. Any remaining teeth you have must then be brushed and flossed, and your gums must be cared for as well to prevent gum disease.
Implant-supported dentures require the surgical placement of dental implants into the jawbone. Once the implants are placed, a process called osseointegration will occur. Over the course of three to six months, the implants will fuse with your jawbone and act as your natural tooth roots. Once this process is complete, your final implant-supported dentures can be attached to your implants. Patients in need of full dentures may require just six to eight implants on either the top or bottom jaw. A partial denture may be supported by just two to four implants. Our implant-supported dentures are permanent and non-removable, making them easier to care for than the traditional alternative.
Am I a Candidate for Dentures?
If you are missing some or all of your teeth, you may be a candidate for dentures. Your eligibility for traditional or implant-supported dentures will be determined by the current state of your oral health, your need of a permanent replacement, and your budget. Traditional dentures are a great option for patients who desire a more immediate and/or affordable solution to dental implants.
Dental implants require a substantial amount of jawbone tissue for support. Patients who lack enough tissue may require additional procedures such as a bone graft to build up the jawbone tissue. Implant-supported dentures are the ideal restorative solution because they permanently replace your missing teeth and actually improve your oral health.
What are the Benefits of Dentures?
Whether you choose traditional or implant-supported dentures, you will enjoy a comfortable and fully customized restoration that looks natural and improves your ability to chew and speak properly. Traditional dentures are more affordable and can be placed much sooner than an implant-supported denture. Implant-supported dentures, however, use dental implants, which prevent jawbone deterioration. Additionally, implant-supported dentures are permanent, so they are easier to care for and you never have to worry about them slipping out of place.
